Advising Hostelworld Group plc on its acquisition of OccasionGenius
Mergers & Acquisitions
Sodali & Co is pleased to have advised Hostelworld Group plc on its acquisition of OccasionGenius. This strategic move significantly enhances Hostelworld’s ambition to become the world’s leading social travel platform.
OccasionGenius, a US-based B2B event discovery platform, provides a rich, city-by-city catalog of local “Things to Do” and a unique global dataset of “travel-worthy” events. Its proprietary technology combines large-scale aggregation with human curation, delivering reliable, marketing-ready content to blue-chip clients.
The acquisition, announced on 21 October 2025, represents a natural progression of Hostelworld’s growth strategy, as outlined at its Capital Markets Day earlier this year. It enables Hostelworld to integrate structured global event data into its platform, expanding its offering beyond accommodation and into curated experiences that connect travelers.
Sodali & Co’s Strategic Communications teams in Dublin and London were proud to support Hostelworld CEO Gary Morrison and his team throughout this transaction. The deal team included:
- Dublin: Eavan Gannon and Seán Lawless
- London: Oliver Banks and Samuel Hillary
This acquisition marks a pivotal moment in Hostelworld’s evolution, reinforcing its position at the forefront of social travel innovation.
