ISS recently opened the comment period for certain proposed changes to its benchmark policy for 2022. The comment period opened on November 4, 2021 and will run to November 16, 2021. Overall, there are 16 proposed changes listed in the release and ISS has invited all interested parties to submit comments.
The 16 policy changes ISS is requesting comment on are broken into 6 groups across multiple geographic regions. For the U.S. there are only a handful of proposed changes that are up for comment – including ISS’ board gender diversity and unequal voting rights policies which are both expanding to cover more issuers, and proposed changes to their climate related policies that codify their case-by-case evaluation of say on climate proposals. In addition, ISS proposed a new policy to more closely scrutinize companies that are the highest greenhouse gas emitters.
This issue of Proxy Update summarizes the proposed U.S. policy changes.
